The Errick “Skip” Willis Memorial Fund (established in June 2011) is a donor advised flow-through fund at The Calgary Foundation, that aims to help Canada solve its climate change challenge.
The fund’s launch was supported by the International Emissions Trading Association, the University of Toronto Centre for Environment and the Industry Provincial Offsets Group.
The distribution of funds is guided by a group of advisors, which includes leading climate change professionals and representatives of the Willis family. Grants from the fund to qualified recipients in Canada will support charitable purposes through education and market based instruments and solutions to the challenges of climate change and the environment.
Our first project will be to provide funding for a named endowed scholarship/bursary at the University of Toronto Centre of Environment in the area of climate change and carbon finance, followed by scholarships/bursaries at the University of Calgary and a third to be determined university.
We are also considering linking the scholarship/bursary arrangements to a national structure involving business mentors. Through our scholarships and bursaries, we want to help close the skills gap and inspire Canada’s next generation of industry and government leaders.
